Smart Communication: Do You Love It or Hate It? Posted: 15 Feb 2012 05:39 AM PST I absolutely love my smartphone. I don’t know where I’d be without it. From texting to using the internet to pulling up directions while I’m lost, it’s proved a critical device in my life. It’s also proved to be a bit of a nuisance. I don’t like the fact that I’m “always available.” People assume that because just about everyone has a cell phone, you should answer. No matter where you are or what you’re doing. Gone are the days of answering machines, allowing one to step out of the house peacefully. Sure, you can turn your cell off, but that’s usually in drastic measures, i.e. at work, in a meeting, or actually (gasp) busy! If you’re in a relationship and your loved one has their phone turned off, you may instantly wonder if they are mad at you. You may get the, “Why did you turn your phone off?” spiel and have to explain yourself. God forbid. One thing’s for sure, though. I’d be lost without it, both figuratively and literally. I love being able to pull up “Maps” while I’m out and about. No need to head back home to pull up directions, no more printing out the useless MapQuest (is that even available still?), and no more, “Maybe if I just turn here ….” Just a simple click and viola, instant turn-by-turn directions. Not to mention, it provides security. Having a smartphone has played an integral role in letting loved ones anywhere know that you’re ok. Whether it be a natural disaster, or in a fight for your life, you can update your Facebook or Twitter status and update your whereabouts. On a less serious note, can I just say how I love the fact that I can download kid-friendly apps and let my little ones play while waiting in the doctors office! Thank goodness for that! How do you feel about your smartphone? Do you own one? Are you text-crazed or text-fazed? If you’re looking for an Android-powered smartphone at a great value, be sure to check out U.S. Cellular. They have the highest satisfaction rating of any national carrier and you earn rewards points to use on things like accessories and upgrading your phone sooner. Learn More.
