Ugh. Facebook. You either love it, hate it, or love to hate it. I remember back in, oh, 2004(?) when you had to have a .edu email to sign up for Facebook. Now, middle-schoolers are on there. In any case, I’ve decided to create this post to help you “like” Facebook a little more. Starting with “How to see all your friends updates” – you know, the basics. During one of their many updates, Facebook changed our wall settings to only display those posts of friends and fan pages we “interact with most.” Well, thank you, Mark, for assuming I wanted this. I don’t. And I don’t like it. But thankfully, Lysa (a fan of Military1Click on Facebook) posted a very helpful comment so we can easily start getting all of our friends and pages back on our radar: Scroll to the bottom of your page and you will see a edit option. Click on it and make sure you have it to where it shows you everyone and not only the people you interact with more. They automatically did that when they changed to the new format.
Wow. Easy enough! Thank you , Lysa! Now, another issue some of you may have is not being able to see any of your fave fan pages (that is, afterall, why you “liked” them). A lot of pages have an application, such as RSS Graffiti, that will automatically transfer blog posts over to their Facebook page. Before FB made one of their many changes, we used to be able to see all of these on our wall. Now, for some odd reason, because those posts were not “hand-posted the old fashioned way,” they do not automatically appear on our wall. Maybe by following Lysa’s step above, it will fix that, but if for some reason it doesn’t, you can always subscribe to someone’s posts, friends or fan pages. Pretty nifty, I think. Especially if you have 987 friends and pages. At that point, it just becomes crowded and you don’t know which way is up. And really, who cares about the serial FB poster who feels the need to update their status at 3:31, 3:54, 4:09 etc. I mean, really. Step. Away. From. Your. Electronic. Device. Unless, of course, you’re a deal blogger like myself. Then it’s just absolutely pertinent that we post (we’re saving people money and telling them how to score freebies – it’s like winning the lottery every 30 minutes!). To subscribe to someone’s posts and pages, follow these steps: - Be sure you have friended them to begin with. That will help tonsss. Or be sure that you “liked” your fave page, like mine here!
- Click on the “Home” button at the top right
- On the left side in the sidebar area, click on “Lists” – if you do not see it, click on the “More” Link.
- Click on “lists” and then you’ll see in the middle of the page all the diff. lists you can create or add to. Go ahead and click on “Create List” at the top and name it “Coupon Blogs” (or whatever you want, such as “Hot Savings” or “Yeeeeeahhh, Buddy!”)
- A new page pops up and you’ll need to click on the link “Add friends”
- A box will appear and you’ll need to click on the drop down link at the very top left (under the name of your list) and choose friends, pages, or subscriptions.
- Once you’ve added everyone, click on Done
- Over on the left side again, you’ll see under your new “list” name! Click on it each time you need a dose!
This way, you’re sure to stay in the know of the latest updates and deals from everyone, and they won’t get lost in magical Facebookland.
